Welcome to Georgian House

At Avamere Georgian House of Lakewood, we take great pride in our ability to care for those with behavioral, psychiatric, and mental health needs. We focus on providing the highest quality of life possible for our residents by helping them achieve their clinical goals. What the staff enjoys most about working at Avamere Georgian House of Lakewood is the opportunity to significantly impact the lives of our unique patient population.

There are few skilled nursing facilities in Washington that work with the population we serve. We treat individuals from all over the State and routinely admit patients that can prove challenging for normal senior care facilities. We work closely with our local hospitals and inpatient gerontology psychiatric units, as well as other skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, adult family homes, and recovery centers. We are members of the BBB, Chamber of Commerce, Washington Health Care Association, American Health Care Association, and work closely with the Veteran’s Association.

Many of our residents have few family members or friends to offer support. It is a pleasure to be able to assist in bridging that gap for our residents – to provide them with the support and care they deserve. The person-centered approach to care at Avamere Georgian House of Lakewood creates a family-like environment where everyone is welcome.

Skilled Nursing

A nursing home, convalescent home, skilled nursing facility (‘SNF), care home, rest home or intermediate care provides a type of residential care. They are a place of residence for people who require continual nursing care and have significant deficiencies with activities of daily living. Nursing aides and skilled nurses are usually available 24 hours a day.

Residents include the elderly and younger adults with physical or mental disabilities. Residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Some nursing homes assist people with special needs, such as Alzheimer patients. Residents may have specific legal rights depending on the nation the facility is in.

Long-term Care

Long-term care (LTC) is a variety of services which help meet both the medical and non-medical needs of people with a chronic illness or disability who cannot care for themselves for long periods of time. It is common for long-term care to provide custodial and non-skilled care, such as assisting with normal daily tasks like dressing, bathing, and using the bathroom.

Increasingly, long-term care involves providing a level of medical care that requires the expertise of skilled practitioners to address the often multiple chronic conditions associated with older populations. Long-term care can be provided at home, in the community, in assisted living facilities or in nursing homes. Long-term care may be needed by people of any age, although it is a more common need for senior citizens.

Physical Therapy for Seniors is a regarded practice for older adults from every level of physical ability to improve balance and strength, build confidence, and remain active. A number of people are familiar with physical therapy as a form of treatment to pursue after an accident, or to cope with a persistent health condition such as Alzheimer’s. For us, Physical Therapy is a way for seniors to maintain independence later in life.

Our Occupational Therapists work in tandem with our Physical Therapists to improve Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s). Occupational Therapists work with a senior to develop and adopt a routine of beneficial daily activities based on the client’s individual needs. We strive to get our patients back in control of life. As you grow older, your vocal cords become less elastic and your larynx muscles weaken. This makes it difficult for many elderly people to speak as they once did, and it makes it more difficult for those around them to understand what they are saying.

Speech therapy can help teach the patient to speak in a new way, with vocal exercises that will help them communicate more effectively.

In modern usage a hospice is a nursing home for the care of the dying or the incurably ill. It offers a type of care and a philosophy of care that focuses on the palliation of a terminally ill or seriously ill patient’s pain and symptoms. These symptoms can be physical, emotional, or psychosocial in nature. Hospice care focuses on bringing comfort, self-respect, and tranquility to people in the final years of life.

Respite Care

Respite care is the provision of short-term, temporary relief to those who are caring for family members who might otherwise require permanent placement in a facility outside the home.

Respite programs provide planned short-term and time-limited breaks for families and other unpaid care givers of children with a developmental delay and adults with an intellectual disability in order to support and maintain the primary care giving relationship. Respite also provides a positive experience for the person receiving care.
